WRC – Ogier: No need to compare me to Loeb anymore

Sébastien Ogier is the new French hope in WRC after Sébastien Loeb chose to compete in only a few Championship events. The Volkswagen driver experienced stormy moments with his Alsatian teammate when the two Frenchmen played together in Citroën Racing. The current leader of the Championship present this weekend in Mexico no longer wants to be compared to his compatriot even if he arrives as a contender for the title. “I’m not the new Loeb, I’m Ogier. I've heard this comparison so many times, we don't need it anymore. We are ten years apart and we come from a different generation. If I had been ten years older, it could have been a big fight between us. Fighting alongside him was a fantastic experience to push my limits, but the other drivers force me to constantly stay focused. »

Sébastien Ogier is leader in Rally of Mexico after being the fastest at the end of the two super specials contested the day before at the opening of the Mexican event. After six consecutive victories won by Sébastien Loeb, the Volkswagen driver could become the new winner of the rally this weekend. “I hope the fight will be interesting. It’s a long rally, but the Polo R WRC looks competitive on gravel. We will have to judge its reliability on this surface. The first two events were quite easy for the cars and this one will be more demanding with the risk of punctures on the road. I will not be on the attack 100%. It is better to often be at 99% rather than 110%. »

Sébastien Ogier will start ninth on the road in the first stage of Rally Mexico.
