WRC – Ogier close to victory in Sardinia

Sébastien Ogier seems on the verge of winning the Rally of Sardinia for the second consecutive year. The Volkswagen driver calmly manages his lead at the head of the event where he has more than a minute ahead of his closest pursuers. At the end of the three special stages contested this morning, the Championship leader is only 9km away from his 20th success in the discipline, a result which would allow him to beat Markku Alén's record and equal that of Didier Auriol.

Mads Ostberg is still in the running to secure a second place in his Citroën. Despite Jari-Matti Latvala's two scratches, the Finn is still 17 seconds behind the Norwegian before competing in the Power Stage. Andreas Mikkelsen and Elfyn Evans still complete the top five ahead of Martin Prokop, Henning Solberg and Robert Kubica. Lorenzo Bertelli retains the lead of WRC2 with two minutes ahead of the DS3 R5 of Sébastien Chardonnet who saw his general time readjusted after SS13. Bernado Sousa completes the provisional podium in the category following the retirement of Abdulaziz Al Kuwari who tore off his front right wheel.

The crews will compete in the Power Stage of the Sardinia Rally from 12:08 p.m. The videos of the event can be viewed on this link.
