WRC – Robert Kubica lost in his momentum in Mexico

Robert Kubica paid dearly for his mistake in the super special which closed the first stage of the Rally from Mexico. While he was in fourth place following the retirements of Mikko Hirvonen and Kris Meeke, the driver M-Sport made a mistake by being trapped by the slippery track of the 2,21km course. His Fiesta RS WRC found herself on the roof after hitting a bollard. “We saw a very solid performance from Robert until the last stages of the stage”, commented Team Principal Malcolm Wilson. “It was very disappointing for him to end the day like this because he was looking for a great result on his first visit to Mexico. »

The Pole fell to ninth place a dozen seconds from the Hyundai i20 WRC by Chris Atkinson. Despite a delay of almost seven minutes on the lead of the race occupied by Sébastien Ogier, the former pilot of F1 can still hope to stand out by taking advantage of possible misfortunes hitting the competition. “I was very satisfied with my driving and we were on course to have a very good result and this end of the stage was extremely disappointing. However, we weren't taking any big risks. We had found our rhythm and we planned to keep it. We were learning and improving our speed, this reinforced our disappointment. There is obviously a long road ahead of us. Our goal is to gain as much experience as possible. »

The second stage of Rally Mexico will begin at 16:28 p.m. French time. Videos of the event are available on this link.
