WRC – Sébastien Ogier looks back on his outing in Germany

He could be titled this weekend and absolutely wanted to impose itself. Sébastien Ogier will ultimately have to be content to make up the numbers in the Rally from Germany. The Frenchman from Volkswagen, after having realized a thunderous start this Thursday during the first two special stages of the event, was forced to give up at the very start of the second stage this Friday morning. The Gapençais in fact lost control of his Polo R WRC from the first kilometers of the SS3. “Only two km after the start, we were surprised by the humidity in a braking point, he relates on WRC Radio. We didn't have it in the notes and we didn't expect it. It was completely dry everywhere, but still damp in this place. I went straight into this turn, hit a small curb and it damaged my left front suspension. »

Admitting that he did not expect this difficulty, Ogier recognizes that he should have adapted his pace and passed less quickly. After some makeshift repairs carried out on the connecting route between SS3 and 4, the Gapençais attempted to continue the event. In vain. “We tried to continue, but the car was difficult to drive and, frankly, it was also a bit dangerous. We ended up stopping on the next special stage, passing over a small ridge. This bump was too much effort for the wheel. »

Out of the race for the rest of the day, Sébastien Ogier, who knows how to put the seriousness of this poor performance into perspective, will return to conclude the rally. ?No one is injured and that?s the most important thing because it?s always dangerous to drive a car in these conditions, announces the French pilot. It could have had more serious consequences. We will come back for the Power Stage and try to gain more experience with the car on this surface to prepare for the next asphalt rally. »
