Petter Solberg couldn't shine at the last rally of the 2012 season in Catalonia after having had to throw in the towel at the first stage. The Norwegian fell just short of points and ended in a way that summed up a disappointing season with Ford. The 2003 world champion has not regained victory since 2005 and falls to fifth place in the Championship behind his compatriot Mads Ostberg who was competing as a private driver.
“I have to say that this season has been really very disappointing”, he comments on crash.net. “We approached this year with high hopes. It was fantastic for me to come back to Ford after starting my career in WRC for over a decade. But even though we started strong in the first half of the season, nothing happened properly in the second half. I don't know why, maybe we tried too hard to win. There was little difference between the Fiesta RS WRC and the Citroën DS3 WRC. As a team we needed to win more rallies but we made too many mistakes and we can't afford those kinds of mistakes when facing a driver as consistent as Loeb."
“A lot of people ask me what I'm going to do in 2013, but the truth is I don't know what I'm going to do at the moment. We are in discussions with many people and I clearly want to stay in the WRC next year, but there is no news yet. »
