WRC – Teemu Suninen moves upmarket

Teemu Suninen will play the rest of the season WRC in the WRC2 category by being entered in a Ford Fiesta R5 like his teammate Éric Camilli from Rally from Germany from August 20 to 23. The resident of Team Oreca showed himself convincingly by winning in the WRC3 category at the Sardinia Rally last June when he was still racing in his DS3 R3.

The development pilot Toyota Motorsport GmbH will launch into the unknown in the German event since it will be his first start behind the wheel of an R5 and only his second entry on a 100% asphalt rally. “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to be behind the wheel of a four-wheel drive. I have the feeling that I will learn faster, better and more than with a two-wheel drive. Honestly, I was hoping for such a change but not this soon. The objective is clearly to do as many kilometers as possible, accumulate as much experience as possible and have good sensations”, declared the Nordic pilot.

Teemu Suninen will arrive in Germany with reasonable goals. “ We must keep in mind that such a change of category in the middle of the season is not necessarily easy. I think I can be fast on clean asphalt but it will become more complicated when there is cutting and there will be some dirt on the road, knowing that Rally Germany is usually made up of many sections dirty. In any case, I want to gain experience with a view to aiming for the podium next year”, added the development driver of the Japanese manufacturer.

The Finn will also be on his Fiesta R5 at the Tour de Corse (October 1 to 4) and the Rally de Catalunya (October 22 to 25).
