WRC – Volkswagen: Ogier and Latvala will brake better in Greece

This is a point complained about Sébastien Ogier for several rallies now which should be corrected this weekend in Greece: the failure of the braking system of his Volkswagen Polo R WRC. During the last event, in Argentina, the cars of the current leader of the Drivers' championship and his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala were equipped with the usual pneumatic braking system. A solution that is not effective enough, as François-Xavier Demaison, technical director at VW, explains. “The handbrake system quickly became a significant problem and we had to remedy it. When the handbrake was applied, it did not release the wheels quickly enough, as drivers like Sébastien Ogier wanted. »

“We will introduce a new hydraulic system in Greece which has undergone a long series of tests to be fully ready for competition”, he specifies. In fact, during the rally from Argentina, Andreas Mikkelsen, third VW driver, already benefited from this new braking kit. “The new system is much more efficient. But in general, our competitors have a slight advantage over us on this point”, concedes to conclude François-Xavier Demaison.

The Greece rally will be available to follow from Friday live on AUTOhebdo.fr
