WRC: Wilson predicts a bright future

Le rally of Jordan was the scene of a suspenseful event, which ended with the record for the smallest gap between the first two. Sébastien Ogier wins by 0??2 ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala during the very last stage.

Such a spectacle delights Malcolm Wilson, director of the Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. The new technical regulations have helped to reduce the gaps between the different protagonists, a good point for the interest of the events. “We have a new car with less powerful engines, but which go as fast as the previous ones, he remarks. It?s very tight and the competition is tough. This seems to me to be one of the most exciting championships in many years. »

With the probable arrival of a new manufacturer (Volkswagen) and two new rounds in Argentina and Abu Dhabi, the 2012 vintage already promises to be famous. “This is excellent news for the championship, although it is very important to balance costs, notes Malcolm Wilson. With distant events, these extra kilometers imply additional expenses. You only have to look at the number of young drivers we have in the championship to see how important it is that it is affordable. Next year is going to be an even more exciting year for rallying. »
