“Hypercar” design and cost reduction on the menu for the WEC

As we have been talking about for several weeks in our columns (see again Ah n°2168), the future queen category of WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans could be based on “hypercars”, the most recent examples remaining the Aston Martin Valkyrie or McLaren Senna

The World Motor Sport Council in Manila, in the Philippines, confirmed this freedom offered to brands, as the Automobile Club de l'Ouest had indicated to us, via the voice of its president Pierre Fillon last October (see Ah n°2136), to return in a sense to the “Grand Touring Prototype” seen in the 90s.

Further information is expected to be revealed on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Le Mans next week, during the ACO press conference on Friday June 15.

The World Council also specified that a reduction in budgets is also being studied, to reach a quarter of the sums currently committed to the premier category.

A plan to encourage the presence of women in WEC will also be initiated, while the transition from 1500 to 1000 miles of Sebring (March 15, 2019) was approved.
