Arjun maini (Trident) set the best time in the free practice session which opens the 2018 season of Formula 2. The pilot Haas achieved a time of 1'44''549 and is five tenths ahead of the Carlins of Lando Norris and Sergio Sette Câmara.

« It's always good to be at the front in free practice, comments the Indian driver when he gets out of the car, but the qualification will be in very different conditions this evening so we will have to continue to work."

Alex Albon places DAMS in 4e position ahead of George Russell (ART GP). Despite problems at the start of the session, Artem Markelov (Russian Time) still finished with 6e best time ahead of Roberto Merhi (MP Motorsport). Maximilian Günther (BWT Arden) concludes the session in 8e place ahead of Antonio Fuoco (Charouz Racing System) and Sean Gelael (Prema Racing), the Indonesian completing the top 10.
