Michelin Le Mans Cup – COOL Racing wins a lively race

With forty cars on the starting grid of a circuit like the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola, this second round of the season could only be lively. The hour and fifty minutes of racing were marred by numerous yellow flags and other Safety Cars. From this chaotic race, it was the No. 320 CD Sport Ligier JS P37 – Nssan driven by Frenchmen Fabien Michal and Adam Eteki who emerged victorious.

The French duo was ahead of the No. 69 from COOL Racing (Maurice Smith, Malthe Jakobsen) in the general classification. The #32 United Autosports (Daniel Schneider, Andrew Meyrick) was in third, but spun off ten minutes from time, triggering a saving Full Course Yellow for Eteki, since the Habs had to contain a returning Jakobsen in his exhausts. It was another United Autosports which finally completed the podium with the No. 23 of John Schauerman and Wayne Boyd. Ligier therefore scored a hat-trick in this second round of the season.

However, the ranking was turned upside down after the checkered flag, as the #37 CD Sport received a 30-second penalty for abusing the track limits and fell to sixth place. Maurice Smith and Malthe Jakobsen thus inherited the victory ahead of two United Autosports, since the No. 22 of Andres Latorre Canon and Garnet Patterson found itself in third place.

First race finished for H24

In GT3, victory went to the No. 44 GMB Motorsport Honda NSX driven by Gustav Birch and Jens Møller. L'Aston Martin Vantage n°99 du Bullitt Racing (Stephen Pattrick, Theo Nouet) et la Porsche 911 n°46 d’Ebimotors (Emmanuele Busnelli et Fabio Babini) ont également terminé sur la boîte.

It was also the first H24 race, a new stage in its development process launched in 2018. Driven by Monegasque Stéphane Richelmi, the first prototype with electric-hydrogen propulsion reached the finish despite a slow final lap. Richelmi took the checkered flag in 32nd place, last of the classification, 15 laps behind the winners. The most important thing, however, was to complete this hour and fifty minutes of racing, which the prototype managed to do.
