A great first in the history of Formula 1 : this Saturday marks the introduction of Sprint Qualifications, to determine the grid for the Sprint Race. This first SQ1 saw Charles Leclerc, poleman of the Grand Prix, took the best time in 1’42″820, with the obligatory medium tires. There Ferrari preceded the Red Bull de Max Verstappen and Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton.
Another catastrophic session for Pierre Gasly, only 19th in SQ1. The Frenchman was only able to complete one timed lap, before returning to the pits until the end of the session with an exhaust problem. Among those eliminated, he is accompanied by the two Alfa Romeo and both Alpha Tauri.
At the very end of the session, Logan sargeant hit the wall at turn 15. The American, 11th in SQ1, will not be able to participate in SQ2 and will have to start 15th in the Sprint Race.
