The track being a little drier than in Q1, some drivers took the gamble of starting Q2 directly on intermediate tires: Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), Alex Albon (Williams), Mick Schumacher (Haas) and Sergio Pérez (Red Bull). Charles Leclerc decided, for his part, not to set a time, the Monegasque being forced to start from the back of the grid this Sunday due to his numerous changes to his car.

While the first part of qualifying was rather clear despite the conditions, the second saw Albon then Pérez make a mistake. The Mexican's exit from the track in the first sector triggered a red flag nine minutes from time while Fernando Alonso had set the best time. Guanyu-Zhou (Alfa Romeo), Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo et Lando Norris (McLaren) were trapped in the red zone at that time. The Mexican did not leave again and was automatically eliminated, unlike the Thai. So there were only three places left to decide.
On the restart, a dry trajectory took shape and the times fell into disarray. Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo), Albon and Norris, victim of a mechanical problem, were the other three eliminated. Max Verstappen once again set the best time.
