Bernie Ecclestone never believed in the creation of a new motorsport championship in opposition to the Formula 1. The Briton, representing the F1 commercial rights holders, saw no interest in it, even at the height of FOTA's revolt against the FIA. “ I wouldn't want to see a series start in opposition to F1, Ecclestone told the Today newspaper. There is no reason, no logic to that. Those who wanted to break (with F1) certainly got carried away. The business is already established (in F1) and it?s easier to do what we do than to start something new. »
