World champion for the fourth time last year, the third with Mercedes AMG F1, Lewis Hamilton is part of the list of nominees for “Sportsman of the Year” at the Laureus Awards which will take place in Monaco on February 27. The Briton will face tennis players Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, athlete Mo Farah and Tour de France winner Chris Froome.

Mercedes is one of the nominees in the “Team of the Year” category, alongside the French Davis Cup team and the NBA champions the Golden State Warriors.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) had already been selected for the “Most beautiful moment in sport”, for his gesture towards the young French fan, disappointed to tears after the premature elimination of the Finn in Spain. The 2007 world champion offered his cap to the young supporter in the Ferrari hospitality where his family had been taken.

Note that Billy Monger, victim of a terrible accident in F4 and amputee of both legs, is also nominated in the same category as Räikkönen after having completed his convalescence.
