Max Verstappen confirmed. The Dutchman is indeed in the match for pole position at Suzuka, on a completely dry track. Under a few timid rays of sunshine, the reigning world champion set a best time of 1'30″224. He got the better of both Ferrari de Carlos Sainz et Charles Leclerc. Behind, the two Alpine are also in very good shape in this first qualifying session: Alonso took the 4th time, ahead of Pérez and Or with.

Among those eliminated, we unfortunately find Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman, just announced at Alpine in 2023, was unable to get out of Q1, victim of brake problems and an error at the hairpin. He is accompanied by Alexander albon et Kevin Magnussen, which stand in less than a tenth. The last line will be composed only of Canadians with Lance stroll before Nicholas latifi.

Those eliminated from Q1:

16) Albon, 17) Gasly, 18) Magnussen, 19) Stroll, 20) Latifi
