The American driver will take the wheel of the FW44 of Nicholas latifi for the first 60-minute practice session. Williams will therefore fulfill the obligation to have young drivers participate in at least two testing sessions during the season, a rule imposed since this year. Nyck de Vries was the first “young” driver to ride for the British team during Free Practice 1 in Barcelona.
“Participating in the United States GP is something extremely special” believes Sargeant
For his first season in Formula 2, Sargeant leaves no one indifferent. With two wins and two other podiums, the Florida native currently sits third in the standings with 119 points. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in my first free practice in Austin. Having the chance to compete in the United States Grand Prix is something extremely special for me. (…) The goal for me will be to learn as much as possible with the new generation of cars. I look forward to making the most of this experience and enjoying it to the fullest,” declared the young 21-year-old pilot. Logan Sargeant is also very often cited as a potential replacement for Nicholas Latifi in 2023, while the track Piastres is now closed.
Sven Smeets, Williams' sporting director, expressed his impatience to see the American on the track. “Logan has demonstrated a great level of ability and maturity so far this season through his accomplishments on and off the track. He delivered performances that allowed him to win races in Formula 2, while working hard during the simulation sessions. It seemed only right to reward these achievements by giving him the opportunity to participate in a free practice session in Austin. »
