In his presentation of the second race of the 2018 season, scheduled for this weekend in Bahrain, Mercedes-AMG F1 highlights the different modes of use of its V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit.

The engine block which has dominated the discipline since the advent of the current architecture in 2014 has three main modes of operation depending on the circumstances encountered.

“At Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, we use three basic modes over the course of the weekend: one for the majority of free practice sessions, one for the majority of qualifying and one for the majority of the race, indicates the stable.

All three can be modified with different subparameters for different situations, which control whether electrical energy is deployed as is on a turn, recovered, or used in a balanced manner (with energy deployment and recovery balancing each other) . »

Drivers can thus reduce performance in the event of traffic or the intervention of the safety car. The German team also identifies Baku, Spa and Monza as circuits highlighting this engine management.
