Spectators have gotten used to it since 1996: most of the time, it's not just the two Mercedes officials on track during the Grand Prix of Formula 1. The brand with the star has in fact made a habit for more than twenty-five years of supplying one of the safety cars and one of the medical cars to the FIA for Grands Prix. Since 2019, it is the Mercedes-AMG GT R which has had the honor of escorting the peloton in the event of an incident on the track, with Bernd Mayländer at the wheel.

This year, it will be the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series which will be one of the two official safety cars, alternating with Aston Martin. Same thing with regard to the medical car. In service for the last seven seasons, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate will give way in 2022 to the GT 63 S 4 MATIC+. As for the Aston Martin safety car, it will once again be the Vantage, while the DBX will play the role of medical car.
