Present at Paul Ricard for two days of testing in preparation for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Pirelli Motorsport accumulated the kilometers with the two single-seaters detached for the occasion by Mercedes for the rubbers expected next year, and the Renault specially prepared to accommodate the 18″ tires which will arrive in 2021.

Aligned by Mercedes, Esteban Ocon accumulated 212 laps, with work focused on slick tires. For 2021, Sergey Sirotkin and the Renault “laboratory” completed 213 laps, for a historic first, this new tire size having previously been seen on an FIA car F2.

“This has been very helpful for us to take a first look at the new generation of tires and begin to chart the development path we will follow for the rest of this year and next year, says Mario Isola, Pirelli manager F1.

Of course, it is difficult to learn much from this test because it is still very early, but we have accumulated all the preliminary data we wanted in good weather conditions. »
