In a lively qualifying session, Lewis Hamilton won his first pole of the season, the 99th of his career.
With a time of 1'14"411, the pilot Mercedes ahead of both Red Bull with Sergio Pérez second and Max Verstappen third. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) complete the Top 5.
Going wide at turn 9, Lando Norris (McLaren) saw his best time canceled and had to settle for 7th place behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Big disappointment for Valtteri Bottas. In difficulty, the Mercedes driver could not do better than the 8th fastest time of the session. He only finished ahead Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Lance stroll (Aston Martin).
