The first part of the qualification in Mexico was not pleasant for Romain Grosjean (Haas), first eliminated in the ranking after seeing Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) improve under the checkered flag.
The Frenchman is joined in the clan of five drivers eliminated by Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and the Williams de Lance stroll and Sergey Sirotkin.
Both Mercedes de Valtteri Bottas et Lewis Hamilton dominated this Q1. After starting on ultra-soft tires, the two residents of the star team put on hyper-soft tires and set the two best times in 1'15"580 and 1'15"673. The two follow Red Bull and both Ferrari.
