Already sullen after a bad qualifying session (13th), Carlos Sainz Jr. (McLaren) received bad news as night fell in the paddock in Istanbul (Turkey).
The Spaniard was found guilty of obstructing Sergio Pérez (Racing Point) during the first phase of qualifying. The future pilot Ferrari, then in a lap exiting the pits, blocked the attempt of the Mexican who was in a flying lap. Warning messages had been communicated to Carlos Sainz Jr, without the latter clearly taking them into account.
Carlos Sainz Jr will therefore start 16th in Istanbul.
