Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) posted an exemplary lap in his last attempt in Q3 to take pole at the Canadian GP with a time of 1'10''240. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is the closest, failing by 2 tenths. Behind Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) 3rd is Daniel Ricciardo who hoists for the first time in season one Renault in the second line. The Australian was ahead by 8 thousandths Pierre Gasly (Red Bull).
Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) missed its end of qualifying. Having spun in his first flying lap, the Finn made several mistakes during his last attempt and failed in 6th place ahead of Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) and McLaren de Lando Norris et Carlos Sainz Jr. Kevin Magnussen (Haas) was unable to take part in the session following his crash in Q2.
