Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) earned his third pole of the season, the 3nd of his career, by winning qualifying for the Quaker State 22 at Kentucky Speedway shortened due to threatening weather two sessions in. The champion of Nascar Cup Series 2015 achieved a time of 28''379 with a lead of 13 thousandths over Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing).
Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing), whose the future raises many questions, took 3rd position ahead of Jamie McMurray (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing). Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing), recent winner at Michigan, will start from the back of the grid after his No. 42 Chevrolet was failed at checks.
