Hard blow for William Byron, author of the second fastest time in qualifying for the Daytona 500. Victim of an incident during his Duel, the Hendrick Motorsports driver was forced to use his reserve car and thus start from the back of the grid. A godsend for Aric Almirola (Stewart-Haas Racing) who takes second place for the start this Sunday.

Like William Byron, Kaz Grala (Kaulig Racing), Cole Custer (Stewart-Haas Racing), Chase Briscoe (Stewart-Haas Racing), Brad Keselowski (Team Penske), Ross Chastain (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Anthony Alfredo (Front Row Motorsports ) will also use their reserve car. They will therefore also start from the bottom of the grid.

Failed twice at the stewards' inspection, Bubba Wallace suffered the same fate and lost his 6th place on the grid.

Equipped with a new engine on his Camaro, Erik Jones (Richard Petty Motorsports) was also penalized by starting from the back of the grid as was Martin Truex Jr. (Joe Gibbs Racing) forced to change his radiator and cooling system .
