La Formula E is gaining even more popularity. The 100% electric competition broke its own audience records during the 8th season this year. Across the 16 E-Prixes which made up the 2022 championship, the total cumulative audiences amounted to 381 million viewers worldwide, or an average of 24 million viewers per event. This represents an increase of 20% compared to the previous season.
Live viewers made up the majority of Formula E's live audience of 216 million, an increase of 10% in the live audience. These new audience records are partly explained by the increase in the number of E-Prixes (and in particular the return to Asia, with a record number of viewers during the Jakarta E-Prix), but also by the suspense at championship which lasted until the last race, between four drivers. Concerning the qualifications, thanks to the new direct elimination format in the form of duels, the cumulative audience increased by 49% compared to the audiences of the traditional format of the fastest lap of season 7.
“The Formula E World Championship is building a passionate fan base around the world, establishing itself as a premium live sport, said Formula E Managing Director Jamie Reigle. Millions of fans watched the season like never before thanks to consistent programming, better broadcast presentation and sporting innovations such as our qualifying format (…). We will work together to build on our momentum and strengthen the emergence of Formula E as a mainstream sport for the next generation. »
