The first pre-season test session at the Ricardo Tormo circuit ended with the best time for Sam Bird in 1'27"169. On the timesheet, the Jaguar driver was ahead of Lucas di Grassi, newly recruited by Venturi, and Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin) by a little more than a tenth. Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) and António Félix da Costa (DS Techeetah) completed the Top 5 but finished more than two tenths behind Sam Bird.

First world champion in the history of Formula E, Nyck de Vries (Mercedes) ranked 9th with a best lap of 1'27"608, 4 tenths slower than that of Sam Bird. The only Frenchman entered for the 2021/2022 season, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Techeetah) was discreet with the 17th mark only almost a second from the lead.
Newcomers to the world of car electric, Antonio Giovinazzi (Dragon Penske) and Dan Ticktum (NIO 333) were unable to leave the back of the peloton finishing in 21st and 22nd positions respectively.
