EL2 – Laguna Seca: McLaughlin surprises

Scott McLaughlin was the fastest with a best lap of 1'10"876, which allowed him to be ahead of Colton Herta by more than 1/10th, already 2nd in FP1, and winner in 2019 at Laguna Seca.

The Kiwi's unusual performance confirmed the Penske's good performance, while his teammate Josef Newgarden had dominated EL1, and simon pagenaud and Will Power, took 4th and 5th place respectively in this second session.

In a 45-minute session, interrupted by two red flags, caused by Dalton Kellett (AJ Foyt) and Rinus VeeKay (ECR), who spun in the 4th turn, the competitors were still able to finish the session by two fast laps on soft tires, 2h30 before qualifying.

Special circumstances which can explain seeing Scott Dixon (Ganassi) settle for 18th time, and Newgarden 10th.

Alex Palou was consistent, with a 3rd place, like Friday. For this penultimate race of the season, decisive in the fight for the title, the Spanish leader of the championship seems much more comfortable than his runner-up, Pato O'Ward (McLaren SP), who continues to struggle, with a 20th time (14th in EL1).

Romain Grosjean signed the 16th fastest time, and Sébastien Bourdais the 22th.

Qualifying will take place from 23 p.m. (HF).
