Daniel Abt dominates EL1 in Mexico

Daniel Abt (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) set the best time in the first free practice session for the Mexico City ePrix this Saturday.

The German driver waited until the very end of the session to beat Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) in 59″319, who had previously taken the lead two minutes from the end of these initial runs.

The Swiss fails 78 thousandths behind Abt and is ahead of Alexander Sims (BMW iAndretti), third at 0″120. Sébastien Buemi places his Nissan e.dams in 4th place at 0″133, while Oliver Turvey (NIO) completes the top 5 at 0″167.

Sam Bird (Virgin Racing), leader of the general classification, ranks 9th, four tenths behind the time reference.

For his debut, Felipe Nasr (Dragon Racing) finished 12th by six tenths when Tom Dillmann (NIO) and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) took 17th and 18th positions at 0″796 and 0″837. The first nineteen single-seaters are all classified within the same second.

Several drivers such as José Maria Lopez (Dragon Racing), Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing), Felipe Massa (Venturi), Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing) and André Lotterer (DS Techeetah) all made an error when braking the first corner during these EL1.
