The Swiss Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) set the best time in the first free practice session of the Mexico City ePrix this Saturday. On a track drying out after recent showers above the Mexican capital and the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the former king of Macau completed his best lap in 1'09″273.

Enough to beat Mahindra Racing drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Jérôme d'Ambrosio by three and eight tenths. Note that both teammates will have to observe a penalty on the starting grid due to a gearbox change.

The top 5 is completed by Felipe Massa (Venturi) and championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes). Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) took 7th place while Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) ranked 16th.

A red flag was displayed 12′ from the end of the session after Daniel Abt (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) went off the track at turn 9. The German hit the protective barriers and damaged his car at the front part.
