Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra) was the fastest in the first free practice session of the Formula E in Berlin (Germany), the German was the only one to complete a lap with 200 kw/h in the session. With a time of 1'09''697, he is ahead by 4 tenths Sébastien Buemi (Renault e.dams) and Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah).

Felix Rosenqvist (Mahindra) is 4e 8 tenths behind his teammate and ahead of the British Oliver Turvey (NIO) and Alex Lynn (DS Virgin). Lucas Di Grassi (Audi) finishes 7e of the session ahead of the Jaguar of Mitch Evans and the Renault e.Dams of Nicolas Cheers. Daniel Abt completes the top 10 for Audi.

The session was marked by the accident of Stéphane Sarrazin (Andretti) on his return to FE. Another Frenchman making his return, Tom Dillmann takes 14th place for Venturi.
