Pierre Gasly (Dams) achieved the best time in free practice for the GP2 Series in Abu Dhabi. The resident of Red Bull Junior Team completed a lap of the track at Yas Marina in 1'49"349 with a tenth ahead of reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne (ART Grand Prix). Nobuharu Matsushita (ART Grand Prix) followed half a second behind the benchmark, ahead of Alexander Red (Racing Engineering) and Alex Lynn (Dams).
Norman Nato (Arden International) and Arthur Pic (Campos Racing) complete the top ten, more than a second behind the best time. Nathanaël Berthon (Team Lazarus) was only able to complete five laps.
