Ryan Hunter-Reay scored the fourth victory of his career in IndyCar by winning on the Milwaukee oval. Starting in second position, the American led a perfect race despite the numerous yellow flags to allow his Andretti Autosport team to secure a victory at home. Tony Kanan finished second ahead of James Hinchliffe, who took second place in the championship. Pole sitter Dario Franchitti retired following an exit from the track at the end of the race. For his part, simon pagenaud finished this race in 13th position.
