The Brazilian Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet) set the best time in the last free practice session for the Indianapolis Grand Prix in 1’10”375. The three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 beats the French Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet) and simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet). Seven American engines monopolize the first seven places, Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan) placing the first DW12 equipped with the Honda engine and kit in 8th position.
