The Brazilian Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet) took pole position on the Fontana oval in California, for the final qualifying session of the season. Castroneves won the first round in the fight for the title with his teammate Will Power who only started 21st. simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda), the last competitor for the coronation will start from 13th place, Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet) will be two places behind in 15th position.
