Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing) set the benchmark time for the first practice session ofIndyCar on the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit (Michigan) with a lap completed in 1’16”293. His teammate Sage Karam is the closest, 2 tenths behind. Will Power (Team Penske) ranks 3rd ahead of his teammate simon pagenaud. Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) rounds out the top five. Sebastian Bourdais (KVSH Racing) is 7th behind Stefano Coletti (KV Racing). Tristan Vautier (Dale Coyne Racing) finished in 19th position.
