With a time of 1'23"1597, 13 seconds off the pace set in the dry, the Frenchman is only a hundredth ahead of Jack Hawksworth (BHA). James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport) and Will Power (Team Penske) follow a tenth ahead of Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport). Sebastian Bourdais (KVSH Racing) set the sixth fastest time ahead of defending champion Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing). Juan-Pablo Montoya (Team Penske) ranked 12th, half a second behind the reference time. Franck Montagny (Andretti Autosport) is 19th, one second behind.
