Verizon's first round IndyCar Series 2014 takes place this weekend on the streets of St Petersburg, Florida. For the first free practice session, it was James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport – Honda) who set the best time in 1'02″932, beating Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) by a hair, 2nd to 0″005. Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt – Honda) took 3rd place and completed a hat-trick for the Japanese engines. Will Power (Penske) is 4th and first Chevrolet representative. Sebastian Bourdais (KV Racing- Chevrolet) took 5th place, simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda) is 8th.
Outgoing champion Scott Dixon (Ganassi – Chevrolet) ranks 13th just ahead of Juan-Pablo Montoya (Penske – Chevrolet).
