Scott Dixon finally offers his first victory to the Ganassi team in 2014 on the Mid-Ohio track, which remains the preserve of Chip Ganassi's team. The reigning champion, who started last, played on strategy to overcome Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet), started from pole. James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport – Honda), starting from 17th place, made a superb comeback to finish 3rd.
Several drivers experienced setbacks in this race, notably the former championship leader Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet), victim of his accelerator even before the start of the race, or Tony Kanaan (Team Ganassi – Chevrolet) eliminated from the start with Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport – Honda) in contact on the first lap .
