Engine manufacturer Honda was penalized for engine changes before the minimum mileage on five cars entered in the Indianapolis 500. This concerns the cars of Marco Andretti, Carlos Munoz and James Hinchcliffe for Andretti Autosport, Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt), Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan) and Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing). Each change results in a penalty of 10 points in the engine classification.
Furthermore the cars of Jacques Villeneuve (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports), Martin Plowman (AJ Foyt), Oriol Servia (Rahal Letterman Lanigan), Alex Tagliani (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing) and Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing) were penalized by 10 points for unauthorized engine changes.
