This is a first in the USA. Sam Schmidt, quadriplegic following an accident during testing at the Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando (Florida) in 2000, received a license to drive a semi-autonomous car in Nevada. The boss of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in IndyCar can steer his Corvette C7 by the movements of his head captured by four cameras installed on board. Acceleration and braking are managed with a tube where it blows to accelerate and sucks to brake.

“Having a license is not yet an achievement, but it is the perfect example to show the world that anything is possible if you combine resources with the right group of people committed to a common cause. It’s a real change in my life and that of my family.”, commented Sam Schmidt.
