The reigning champion of theIndyCar Scott Dixon (Team Ganassi – Chevrolet) took pole position for the Iowa race. The American engines monopolize the first four places on the grid since we find Dixon's teammate at Ganassi, Tony Kanaan in 2nd position, followed by Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) and Ryan Briscoe (Team Ganassi). Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport – Honda) ranks 5th and first representative of the Japanese engine manufacturer. Sebastian Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet) is 6th, Simon Pagneaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) 11th.
