Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt) takes the first pole position of the season at the St Petersburg track in Florida. The only driver under 1'02, he is ahead of the winner of the 500 Indy 2013, Tony Kanaan (Ganassi) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti).
Often in the top 6 during free practice, Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing) 13th and Simon Pagneaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) 14th were unable to participate in the Fast Six, which brings together the six fastest drivers from the two qualifying groups.
