The officials of IndyCar Series decided to reduce the penalty imposed on the Brazilian Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet) following the Indianapolis Grand Prix held last May. The driver of the No. 12 Dallara DW3 was penalized eight points in the Drivers' standings for avoidable contact after being found responsible for the first corner accident involving Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) and James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda).
After review by the commissioners, Castroneves will ultimately only lose three points in the standings.
