Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport) set the best time in FP2 at Barber Motorsports Park, in 1'06"0797. The American beat two representatives from Chip Ganassi Racing, Marcus Ericsson, and Scott Dixon, the defending champion.
For his first day in IndyCar, Romain Grosjean showed progress, after FP1 finishing in 21st place. On hard tires, the Frenchman even held 2nd place in the session for a long time, before dropping to 17th place, when he put on the soft tires, those used to set a fast lap, which he used for the first time.
The ex of Haas F1 Team can also see a reason for hope in the 6th time of the session achieved by his teammate, Ed Jones.
Still in the tricolor camp, Sébastien Bourdais (Aj Foyt) set the 11th fastest time, while simon pagenaud (Penske) had to settle for 18th place, during a session interrupted by three incidents which involved Dalton Kellett (AJ Foyt), Colton Herta (Andretti), then Josef Newgarden (Penske).
Now it's time for the competition, with qualifying, starting at 23:50 p.m., before the race, Sunday at 21:30 p.m.
