Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) set the best time at the end of the first day of testing at the Long Beach GP (California). The winner of the 2015 edition set a time of 1'08''4112 in the first practice session before suffering from the front end and temperatures in the second session.
Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autoport) was the closest. His teammate Alexander Red completed the top three by being the fastest in EL2. simon pagenaud (Team Penske) and James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) completed the Top 5. Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) placed tenth.
