Colton Herta (Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport) was the fastest during the only practice session for the St Petersburg GP (Florida), the final round of the championship.
He beat his teammate, James Hinchcliffe, and Alex Palou (Dale Coyne Racing).
For his second race of the season, Sébastien Bourdais (AJ Foyt), who plays in his hometown, set the 5th time, while simon pagenaud was satisfied with the 18th fastest time.
While 32 points separate Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi), the leader, from Josef Newgarden (Team Penske), his runner-up, the first set the 16th time, and the second the 8th, at the end of a session interrupted twice during the last three minutes after incidents involving Felix Rosenqvist (Chip Ganassi), then Oliver Askew (McLaren SP).
For his first in the category, Scott McLaughlin (Team Penske) set the 10th time.
Qualification will take place from 21:05 p.m. (HF).
