simon pagenaud (Team Penske) took 23rd position on the Indy 500 grid. The Championship leader achieved his time during Group 1 qualifying which determines positions from 10th to 33rd place.
Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) was the fastest in the group and will therefore start from 10th place. The American is ahead of Ed Jones (Dale Coyne Racing), Oriol Servia (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), Mikhail Aleshin (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) and Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing).
