Dario Franchitti (Target Chip Ganassi Racing) set the best time in the first free practice session on the Toronto road circuit by completing the lap in 1:01:568. Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) kept pace, finishing 0’064 behind the Championship leader.
Will Power, more comfortable on road circuits, is fifth, 0??223 behind his rival for the title. The Team Penske driver finished behind Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) and Justin Wilson (Dreyer & Reinbold Racing).
For his return to IndyCar, Sebastian Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) set the 18th fastest time of the session.
